Appley Bridge All Saints'

Welcome to Our Year 1 Class Page!

My name is Miss Muirhead and I will be teaching Year 1 this year.  Our wonderful teaching assistants, Mrs Brannon and Miss Hooper are looking forward to working with the children and supporting their learning throughout the year.

Our PE day is Tuesday. We will be going down to the forest on Friday afternoons so please send your child into school with their forest school clothes in a named bag on this day.

Homework is set on a Tuesday and should be returned the following Monday. Reading is an essential skill that we continue to learn and develop in Year 1. Your child will be sent home with a reading book each week to consolidate their phonic skills. We ask that your child reads for 10 minutes daily to practise what they have been learning in school.

Reading books will be collected in on a Thursday and new ones will be issued on a Friday.

You can access information about our curriculum and the end of year expectations at the bottom of our page. We hope you enjoy looking at what we have been doing and learning together!

Please do not hesitate to contact me via Class Dojo if you have any queries.

World Book Day 2024!

We celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book characters, discussing our favourite books, reading stories and making up our very own song to encourage others to read. To the tune of 'You've Got A Friend In Me' we sang 'Pick up a book and read!'

Monet Paintings

The children have painted these beautiful pictures inspired by Monet and the style of impressionism. The children used watercolour paint to paint blades of grass, focusing on using short, snappy brush strokes and printed some flowers on top.

Let it Snow!

The children loved exploring seasonal changes by playing in the snow and making snowmen.

Fruit Kebabs

We designed, made and evaluated our very own fruit kebabs. Don't they look delicious!

Science- Blackpool Zoo

The children were delighted to visit Blackpool Zoo as part of their topic, 'Penguins, Possums and Pigs'. They enjoyed learning all about endangered animals, watching penguins being fed and seeing lots of animals close up. A great time had by all!

Art- Mud Painting

It is fantastic to be going down to the forest again! The children enjoyed using mud to paint some beautiful pictures.

Maths- Representing Numbers

The children thought like mathematicians to represent numbers in different ways.

Geography- North Pole, South Pole and Equator

The children are learning to locate the North Pole, South Pole and Equator.
