At All Saints’ we have three heroes groups that have a large part in planning and delivering Worships amongst other tasks. These children are selected from Key Stage 2 classes and change every year. With a focus on either FAITH, HOPE or LOVE they follow a plan to advocate change, make connections and develop faith across school. Each group is the lead group for a full half term but will still have tasks to complete in other terms. Faith Heroes are supported by Mrs Bimson, World Heroes are supported by Mrs Dunn and Community Heroes are supported by Mr Roberts.
Faith Heroes
Our Faith Heroes were part of organising a number of missions this year. With a focus on the value of FAITH, they lead a school wide initiative collecting food at Harvest time and donated these to a local foodbank, The Brick (Wigan). For Children in Need they collected money from a Non Uniform day for charity. At Christmas time, the Faith Heroes helped the Posada figures launch during a special worship and send them on their way with the selected children. Children also lead special Worships during Christian Aid Week. During Remembrance commemorations The Faith Heroes were also responsible for Worship on Harvest, Advent and Christmas.
World Heroes
Our World Heroes, with a focus on the value of HOPE, lead a number of Worships and events. Focusing in on the C of E value of DIGNITY, the children began the process of Toilet Twinning. They raised money by holding an Easter Egg raffle and were able to twin two toilets in Malawi and Nigeria to add to the 12 that were twinned in 2023. At the Summer Fair, they ran a stall to raise awareness for Fairtrade. The Heroes wore a t-shirt showing the Fairtrade logo and organised a lucky dip with a prize which was actually won by the Mayor. Since being awarded the Bronze Level Global Neighbours Award in 2022, we have continued to develop our work in this area by ensuring at least one Worship in every term. This is in addition to Picture News which often covers Global Awareness issues. Our Heroes have ran these assemblies with great success. The World Heroes were also responsible for Worship on Lent, Ash Wednesday and Easter.
Community Heroes
Our Community Heroes, with a focus on the value of LOVE, lead a number of Worships including Pentecost and Ascension. Their focus was to get out into the community. They achieved this by creating and delivering Christmas and Easter cards to local libraries, nurseries and businesses. The Heroes also delivered invitations to our local residents to our school fair offering a complementary drink and were welcomed by our Chair of Governors. The Community Heroes helped to develop new ideas to teach the values of democracy and rule of law. The Year 6 Community Heroes developed a new idea of Headteacher for a Day. This allowed all children in school to experience a voting system and hearing different manifestos.
