Appley Bridge All Saints'

A Warm Welcome to Reception Class

My name is Mrs Green and I will be teaching Reception this year.  Myself and our teaching assistants, Mrs Brannon and Mrs Lee, are really looking forward to having fun and learning lots with our new Reception children.

Sports Day

What a fantastic time we all had at sports day trying out lots of different races that we hadn’t tried before ... and all while DJ Danny entertained us with his music.

Jubilee

Reception enjoyed following instructions to do their own drawing of Queen Elizabeth.

We also worked brilliantly as a team to create a huge golden crown with lots of jewels.

Forest Maps

As part of our work on maps, we made a collaborative map of the forest. We used lots of things we found while we were there and thought really hard about where everything should go to represent the different areas of the forest.

Exploring Our Church

Our class visited All Saints’ Church as part of our RE work on Special Places. We explored all sorts of places in church that we wouldn’t normally go. We found lots of exciting things to look at and try, and some of us walked down the aisle pretending to get married.

Repeated Patterns

We made repeated patterns using things we found in the forest.  Have a look at some of our patterns.

Prayer Walk in Fairy Glen

We went on a prayer walk to Fairy Glen and enjoyed using our senses as we came to different places on our journey through the forest. We smelled the wild garlic; felt lots of different textures; heard the birds, the wind, the stream and lots of other sounds; and saw all kinds of things including a fairy door in an old tree trunk. Then we said a prayer to thank God for all the the lovely things we had experienced while we were there.

Well, we are well and truly into autumn now and the children have come back from their half term break full of energy and ready to learn.  Last week, we learned all about bonfire night, Guy Fawkes and fire safety.  We had a bonfire down at the forest and worked hard on our mark-making skills to create our own firework pictures.  We have had fun sweeping and playing in the scrunchy, crunchy autumn leaves and learned about the tree names and why the leaves fall off in autumn. Today, we have started our learning about Diwali by making rangoli patterns.

We have already had a fantastic start to the year and the children are settling in brilliantly.  They are all getting used to their new rules and routines and are proving themselves to be little stars.

Here are a some photographs from the first few days.

This is the new 2021 statutory framework which outlines what children must be taught in the EYFS.

Reception Class Long Term Plan

Phonics Scheme

We use the 'Letters and Sounds' scheme of work to teach phonics.

Articulation of Phonemes Video

It is essential that children are taught the correct articulation of phonemes so that they will be able to segment and blend and therefore read and spell words.   Here is a short video showing the correct pronunciation of all the phonemes we will teach.
