Appley Bridge All Saints'

Welcome to the Year 4 class page. Miss Housden and Mrs Bimson will all be working in Year 4 this year. On this page, you will find information about the curriculum and year group expectations in Year 4. We will be aiming to update the website regularly with photographs and information about what is going on in our classroom this year.

Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday and our homework will be set on Tuesdays and returned into school on Mondays.

Active Maths!

This week we finished our maths unit on fractions and decimals! We used what we have learnt to do some active maths outside, questioning each other on dividing by 10 and 100, and converting between fractions and decimals.

Science Week

This week 5 - 14th March is British Science Week! This year's theme is 'Innovating the Future'. Year 4 have been busy today designing Robo-Bugs to help with search and rescue, exploration or construction.

Passport to Europe

Miss Housden and Mrs Bimson are very excited to welcome year 4 back into the classroom this week to continue the learning that we have started this half term.

This half term our topic is Passport to Europe! This includes geography, design and technology, and music. In geography we are completing a project all about Bavaria, with the final projects being presented in the last week of term. To go with this we are designing and making passport holders in design and technology. In music we are researching and learning about three different European composers and their most famous works.

History - Plague Doctors

We are currently finding out all about The Great Plague through history, geography and art! This afternoon we made our own plague doctor masks to test how effective they would be. As a class we have decided that the masks did not offer much protection!

English - Narrative

Over the last few weeks we have enjoyed reading The Firework Maker's Daughter in English. We then wrote our own narratives using the plot of The Firework Maker's Daughter as a guide.

This week we decided to publish our narratives!

English - Explanation Texts

In English this week we have been writing explanation texts all about Wallace and Gromit's cracking contraptions! We had great fun choosing the layout for our writing and making it appealing for the reader!

This term,  in Year 4, Sparks Might Fly as we investigate all things electrical through Science, DT and Music. We will be exploring electricity, identifying electrical appliances and how they work, the dangers of electricity and how we can conserve energy. We aim to make our own working product using our newly acquired knowledge of circuits.
