Appley Bridge All Saints'

Welcome to the Year 6 class page. Mr Buckley, Mr Hunter, and Miss Hooper will all be working in Year 6 this year. On this page, you will find information about the curriculum and year group expectations in Year 6 towards the bottom and useful information for parents regarding end of Key Stage 2 Statutory Assessments. We will be aiming to update the website regularly with photographs and information about what is going on in our classroom this year.

We are looking forward to sharing some exciting things this year!

Our PE days are Tuesday and Friday and our homework will be set on Tuesdays and returned into school on Mondays.

Homework will be posted on the Class Dojo for the half term.

Outside Sports Sessions

We have been lucky enough to have some outside organisations come into school to help children explore different sports. We have recently had Lancashire Cricket in to do some taster sessions and encourage children to take up cricket as well as TriKidz who has children 'land swimming' cycling and running in an encouragement to get moving and enjoy triathlon. We had so much fun, take a look!

RE - Names for God

As part of RE, we have been considering other peoples ideas about God. We came up with names and did them in graffiti to go on our RE display. There were some really well thought out names and great graffiti artwork.

DT - Junk Model Structures

We have been planning our rides in the run up to SATs and in order to consider how strong certain joins were we built some structures our of junk modelling materials. Take a look at how they did!

Archbishop Of York - Community Action Day

Year 6 have been working their way through the Young Leaders Award this year. They have looked at different leadership qualities which have helped them grow into Young Leaders who can make a change in their community. We discussed which areas around the community might need some help or extra attention and decided to head down to The Meadows to help Appley Bridge Community Association carry out some voluntary work improving and conserving the area.

We thoroughly enjoyed the day and were able to bring our skills to The Meadows to help with care and maintenance of different areas. Thanks to the parent helpers who came down for the day and a huge thank you to the Community Association for helping us out with this and for providing the resources for us to carry out the work with them.

Sports - Netball Team

The netball team have been working really hard to brush up on shooting, teamwork and passing skills for the school games qualifier this half term. They have worked incredibly hard and played incredibly well, with the team managing to qualify from the round-robin event meaning we will be heading to compete for the chance to represent West Lancashire in the School Games. We're all super proud of the team! Congratulations on your hard work so far.

Science - Blood Modelling

We concocted a recipe to show us the different components of blood during our circulatory system topic. We were able to identify the different components and explain the jobs they do in keeping us alive and transporting oxygen around our body. The modelling looked pretty gross but we had fun getting messy.

DT - Pizzas

Pizza is an excellent meal choice when it is done properly and Year 6 set off on a mission to create their perfect pizza. We created a survey based on our own preferences and explored popular pizza restaurants before setting off to create our own. We came up with some great creations and tried to make them as healthy as possible. Take a look at some of our work creating the dough.

World Book Day 2022

For World Book Day, children at school got all dressed up as their favourite character from a book. It was great to see some of the wonderful outfits. Great job Year 6!

Science - Colours of the Rainbow

Using different light filters, we explored how to make certain colours. It was interesting seeing the different filters changing how the light looked.

Maths - Active Basketball Maths

We decided to test our skills shooting hoops during an active maths lesson. We scored some incredible 3 pointers and solved some problems relating to fractions, decimals and percentages at the same time!

Board Games Club

A good number of Year 6 have been playing board games in board games club on Thursday lunchtimes. We're getting really competitive and it's great fun for everybody involved. Take a look at some of the games we have been playing.

Science - Exploring Light

Year 6 started their light unit off with an interesting investigation. We looked at how the light travels in a straight line and explored how we see objects. Take a look at what we did below!

Meet the House Captains

Our class has voted for our chosen representatives for each house. We have decided on our house captains for this year and they're so excited to get to work, caring for and improving their own houses as much as they can!
